Against the backdrop of the hysterical campaign against the CFA agreement in Victoria a more tragic story was playing out.
For over 30 years in western Victoria, generations of firefighters had been exposed to deadly toxins that have compromised their health at the Country Fire Authority’s Fiskville Training Facility.
The Justice for Fiskville campaign was launched in August to put a spotlight on the health needs of the firefighters who trained there to ensure that they received full and proper blood testing and health support.
The campaign was launched on the steps of the Victorian Parliament bringing together firefighters and their children, who for the first time could publicly tell their own story of how the toxic contamination had impacted their lives.
The ongoing earned and social media campaigning on Fiskville has delivered real progress, with the Andrews Government announcing in November that it would commit to a health surveillance and support program.
